NOTE: All participants are required to either have a Glacier Nordic Season Pass or Day Pass. Participants may bring thier own equipment, or rent classic or skate gear at the Glacier Nordic Shop at the Glacier Nordic Center. Equipment rental fees are not included in clinic/session fee, and must be rented for each clinic/session. You can reserve your equipment ahead of time by calling the shop at 406-862-9498.

Adult Ability Level Guide

Level 0 = Intro = Zero Cross Country Ski Experience

Level 1 = Beginner = Limited cross-country experience. Wants to learn or refresh the basics.

Level 2 = Advanced Beginner = Has learned the basics of kick, glide, and/or skate technique. Can maneuver easy downhills and stop when needed.

Level 3 = Intermediate = Can ski 5km without stopping, can do V2 if skate and double-pole kick if classic. Can maneuver down the Big Mtn Nordic Trail S turn.

Level 4 = Advanced = Can ski 10km without stopping, might dable in racing, and keen on assessing body mechanics and technique.

Level 5 = Expert = Can ski 20km without stopping. Wants to fine-tune technique, fitness and tactics. Likely races.

Adult Training Skate Group - All Sessions: Oct 29, 2026 thru March 4, 2027 - Advanced Beginners to Expert - One Payment for full winter season

Ability 2-4. Thursdays - 5:15pm to 7pm at Big Mountain Trails.

The Adult Training Group is organized into four-week training blocks that each focus on a specific stage of skill and fitness development.

Each four-week period is followed by a one-week break between sessions. These breaks align with the holiday season and create built-in opportunities to reschedule sessions if weather, trail conditions, or other unforeseen circumstances require a cancellation.

Participants are welcome to register for individual sessions that match their goals or complete the entire series for a progressive learning experience. Each four-week block builds on the previous one, but every session is designed to provide valuable instruction and a rewarding experience on its own.

Prepare skiers physically and mentally for the winter season by developing the strength, balance, mobility, power, and endurance needed for efficient skate skiing. Each week builds progressively—from foundational movement skills, to power development, to endurance, and finally to integrating all components in preparation for the first days on snow.

Introduce and reinforce fundamental skate skiing skills while adapting to early-season conditions. Participants will develop balance, body position, weight transfer, and confidence on skis while building a foundation for more advanced technique later in the season.

Build efficient skate skiing technique by refining movement patterns, improving terrain management, and developing confidence across a variety of ski conditions. Participants will learn how to ski more efficiently, climb with control, and maintain technique as terrain and effort change.
