Silhouettes, Working and Writing with the Sun with Catherine Lemblé and Frederik Daem
About the Workshop:
Silhouettes is a workshop that builds on the experiments of 19th-century botanist Anna Atkins. Using the parameters of cyanotype, a photographic printing process that uses sunlight and no camera, combined with an introductory writing exercise, we aim to create a unique print.
Participants are encouraged to bring objects with as much fine detail and delicate structure as possible. Thin, flat, textured objects tend to produce the best results, such as ferns, fine grasses, small flowers, seed pods, delicate fabrics, paper cut-outs, intricate metal objects, or fine wire structures.
All materials and supplies are included.

About the Artists:
Catherine Lemblé is a Belgian photographer based in Brussels. She received her MA in photography from Luca School of Arts Brussels. Through long-term projects and analog pictures she examines the ever-changing relationship between humans and the more-than-human world. Her latest photo book, Only Barely Still (2025), challenges conventional ideas about the Arctic by focusing on the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard and the lives of the women who inhabit it.
Frederik Daem studied Audiovisual Arts (Ritsc, Brussels) and Philosophy (KU Leuven). He authored a short story collection Zelfs de vogels vallen, and the novel Tekens van leven (Debuutprijs, 2016). Creator of the TV series Putain (2024), Daem is currently working on his third novel about European itinerant workers and vandwellers.
