STEAM Olympiad Engineering Explorations for 4/5th Grade

Students will explore engineering and physics topics through hands-on experimentation, trials, failures, and redesign. Home day work will be assigned. Students will have the opportunity to work on 4 projects that directly relate to the competitive events at the Olympiad: a vehicle powered by a mousetrap, a human Rube Goldberg apparatus, a tennis-ball-throwing trebuchet, and an air-powered
rocket.

This course is intended to prepare students to participate with Legacy’s
STEAM Team at the Kern County STEAM Olympiad on May 1, 2027. Note that although this is a first-semester course, the competition is held during the second semester, so participating students should be willing to meet with their teams in March/April to refine any engineering builds they plan to bring to the competition.

Students may also want to consider participating in the semester 2 course that will begin: Feb. 19th. Registration for semester 2 will be open in January.

Cost: $120.00 for 10 sessions for 4-5th grade students

Deadline to Register: Oct. 6th

*If your 4/5th grade student is currently enrolled in Friday Study Class they are allowed to register and participate in this enrichment class also. It is a separate fee from the FSC fee.

All other students must be dropped off and picked up at building 3. This class will meet in Rm 302.

There may be some Home Day work required from time to time.
