• Making Notan Art

Oct 4 from 11am - 12:30 pm at Aplomb Gallery, 262 Central Ave, Dover, NH. Discover the meditative power of pattern and the dynamic balance of positive and negative space in this unique, beginner-friendly art workshop. Students will explore Notan, the traditional Japanese design concept exploring the interplay of light and dark, by cutting and expanding simple paper shapes to create striking, symmetrical compositions. Building on that foundation, participants will dive into the relaxing, repetitive world of Zentangle, learning structured ink patterns to add intricate texture, depth, and mindfulness to their artwork. No prior drawing experience is necessary—this class is designed to quiet the inner critic, spark creativity, and provide a welcoming space for adults to unwind and make something beautiful.
