• AEC Global Qualifier Team Registration

  • The 2027 AEC Global Qualifier is the long-form, written-proposal pathway to the 2027 International Space Settlement Design Competition (ISSDC).

    The Global Qualifier challenges students from around the world to work as an aerospace engineering company and develop a detailed proposal for a space settlement in response to a Request for Proposal (RFP).

    Students receive the RFP in October and have until February to research, design, organize, and document their proposed settlement. Teams submit a comprehensive proposal describing how their settlement satisfies the customer's requirements while demonstrating thoughtful engineering, creative problem-solving, commercial viability, and effective project management.

    Following the written proposal review, the Top 10 teams are invited to participate in a live Zoom Defense. During the defense, teams present the strongest aspects of their proposal and respond to questions from a panel of judges.

    The Top 4 teams from the Global Qualifier are then invited to send up to 12 representatives to participate in the ISSDC.

    The Global Qualifier is designed to provide students who do not have access to an AEC regional competition in their area with an opportunity to participate in the SSDC experience and compete for a place at the international event!

    If you are a student that does not have the ability to form a team, you may apply for membership on the international team here (this application is highly competitive)

  • NOTE: If your team does not have a mentor, AEC will assign one from our volunteer base to support your team throughout the competition. Mentors are available to provide guidance, answer questions, and help your team navigate the competition process.

     Each team member MUST individually registered with the form linked in the confirmation email after submission in order to receive competition materials starting October 1st.

    Note: Each team advancing to the International Finals will have the opportunity to send up to 12 students to represent them in person at ISSDC. Teams are responsible for arranging travel funding and visas.

  • Chaperone Information

  • Teams must identify two potential chaperones during registration in case the team is selected to attend ISSDC.

    AEC recommends that chaperones be teachers or other appropriate adults who can support the students during the international event.

    Chaperones duties will include:

    • Traveling with team to and from the 2027 ISSDC in London
    • Work with AEC Safety Team to ensure safe experience for competitors
    • Ensure competitors adhere to AEC rules and regulations
      • This includes enforcing event schedule attendance, code of conduct, nightly curfew, etc.
    • Be available throughout the duration scheduled events of ISSDC (late July 2027)
