  • Interrupting Criminalization is offering another “Communiversity” series in Brooklyn starting in September and October 2026!

Last year, we partnered with Women Building Up to organize an anti-criminalization Communiversity series. In 2026, Women Building Up will once again host a Communiversity series organized by IC. This time, the focus is Healing Justice (HJ).

As defined by the Kindred Southern Healing Justice Collective, HJ “is a political strategy…to intervene and respond to generational trauma and systemic oppression, and build community/survivor led responses rooted in southern traditions of resiliency to sustain our emotional/physical/spiritual/psychic and environmental well being.”

  • Herbs and Grounding Practices

    Facilitated by Zaineb Mubarak
  • October 17, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 pm

    Capacity: 15 people
  • Come share space as we learn about traditional uses of 1-2 familiar herbs. We will explore techniques of regulating our nervous systems and make herbal facial sprays to support us as we transition seasons, remembering the past and laying personal groundwork for the future.

    Facilitator Bio:

Raised in Atlanta, GA, Zaineb Mubarak grew up drinking tea with her Moroccan mother and playing around the trees in her backyard. Today, she combines her gratitude for nature, as well as her perspective of tea as a ritual, by learning about traditional uses and medicinal properties of plants- striving to incorporate them in her day to day. She enjoys sharing this practice with others and believes that turning to nature for self healing is an act of resistance.
