    Staying Informed

We will continue to use Google Groups to manage email communications. We also have a private facebook group here that all parents and vaulters (ages 13+) with fb accounts should join. Parent should direct general questions to this facebook group first; only private or vaulter-specific questions should be directed to coaches.

    Competitions

All Canter vaulters required to attend at least three vaulting competitions each year (not including our home show should we host one) and are strongly encouraged to attend more. Walk vaulters are encouraged but not required to attend competitions.

  • Attendance & Participation Policies

    Absences

Regular attendance at practices is required for competitive/pre-competitive vaulters. If a vaulter has more than one absence from practice in a month, the coach will assess whether the vaulter missed instructional content — new drills, new skills, or routine building — that would be disruptive to catch up on during regular group practice. If so, a private may be required to cover that content. Their participation in regular group practices after returning from multiple absences may be modified if needed to uphold horse welfare and avoid disruption to the group. Planned absences must be communicated to the coach at least 1 month in advance to allow time for planning/scheduling privates/drop-ins as needed. Excessive absences may result in the vaulter being moved down to a lower level if the vaulter's physical fitness and/or skill level has deteriorated to a point no longer sufficient for their previous level.

For canter vaulters, absence from more than one strength/conditioning class in a month for any reason will result in a requirement to schedule a private session to make-up the workout.

The vaulter will be financially responsible for any required make-up time, with the exception of one drop-in make-up practice per month for an excused* absence, which must be used within one month of the absence.

*excused absences are absences due to circumstances outside of the vaulter/family's control, including illness, injury, conflict with a required school/academic event, or family emergency and must be communicated to coaches as soon as it is known the vaulter will be absent. Family vacations, personal/extracurricular schedule conflicts, school events related to elective courses, etc. are not considered excused absences and are not eligible for make-up practices.

Vaulters participating in a pair/team will have a separate attendance contract signed prior to pair/team commitment. Vaulters participating in a competition will also have a separate attendance contract signed prior to registration for the competition.

    Lateness

All vaulters must arrive to practice on time. Late arrivals are disrespectful to the coaches and other vaulters and cause disruption to practice, which is unfair to the vaulters who did arrive on time.

Vaulters who arrive to practice more than 10 minutes late will be permitted to sit and observe practice but cannot participate. Lateness can be excused if it is for a reason outside of the vaulter/parent’s control (ex. abnormally bad traffic) AND all coaches are notified before practice, as soon as the vaulter/parent realizes they will be late. A vaulter can have up to two instances of excused lateness in a month; after this, they are considered chronically late and usual rules around lateness apply.

    Injury/Illness and Doctor/PT Notes

If a vaulter has (a) an injury that causes them to miss a practice, (b) an illness that causes them to miss more than three training sessions in a month (two for walk vaulters), or (c) an illness or injury that causes them to modify training more than three times in a month (two times for walk vaulters)*, they must provide a note signed by the doctor or physical therapist treating them in order to continue participating in vaulting activities (practice, competitions, clinics).

The note must contain the following information:

    • If the vaulter is allowed to participate in ground drills/conditioning
    • If the vaulter is allowed to vault on the barrel
    • If the vaulter is allowed to vault on the horse
    • What specific physical limitations the vaulter has in detail, or a statement that the vaulter has no limitations
    • If there are limitations, a specified timeline on which the limitations will be removed (ex. “Can return to regular training after three weeks) or a specified timeline for when they will be reevaluated (ex. “Will be reevaluated in one month”)

If a vaulter is participating in vaulting activities with limitations and is incapable of completing a full warm-up (which may be modified with coach permission but must include some form of cardio, jumping, and mobility work), they will only be permitted to do basic vaulting on the barrel and at walk.

*if the vaulter is unable to get an appointment for evaluation within a short time-frame, they may continue to participate on a limited basis provided that an appointment for evaluation is scheduled. The degree to which the vaulter can participate in practice on a given day is entirely up to the discretion of whomever is coaching that practice.
