Nutcracker Children's Ensemble - Audition Registration Form

Eligibility:
Royal Winnipeg Ballet are looking for dancers between the ages of 7 and 15 years (as of December 31, 2026) to audition for our 2026 production of Nutcracker in Victoria!

Auditioning dancers must be between 3'8" and 5'6" in height. We regret that we are unable to allow for any exceptions to the age or height requirements.

We are looking for:

Mounties (3’8″ – 4’10”) - required to act and perform basic dancing/blocking actions.

Mice (3’8″ – 4’10”) - required to perform basic dancing /blocking actions and wear large head piece

Party Children (3'8" - 4'11") - required to act and perform intermediate dancing steps

Polar Bears (3'8" - 4'10") - required to perform basic dancing/blocking actions and wear head pieces

Angels (3'8" - 4'11") - required to act and perform intermediate dancing steps

Dieter* (3'8" - 4'11") - required to act and perform advanced dancing steps
*Note: Those auditioning for Dieter will also be considered for the other roles in the production.

Reindeer (5'0" - 5'6") - required to pull a sleigh and perform advanced dancing steps

All auditioning dancers will be required to bring a photo on the day to attach to their registration.

10:00 – 11:30 am – Check in for ALL DANCERS
11:30 – 11:45 am – Break (15 min)
11:45 – 1:00 pm – Audition Class for 7-8 year olds
1:00 – 1:30 pm – Break (30 min)
1:30 – 2:45 pm – Audition Class for 9 years and older
2:45 – 3:00 pm – Break (15 min)
3:00 – 3:30 pm – Reindeer Audition*

*By invitation only following the Audition Class for 9 years and older

Please Note: There will be a $25.00 registration fee, per dancer, to be paid online in advance of audition. Registration is not complete until payment is received.

Parents/guardians may not observe the audition.

What to Bring to the Audition:

A standardized headshot photo (4X6, 5X7 or 8X10)
Water bottle
Ballet Dance Attire

Note: A studio will be available for dancers to warm-up after they check-in.

Audition Results:

The results of the auditions will be relayed to parents/guardians via email. There is no need for dancers or their families to contact RWB or Dance Victoria to enquire if they are cast. There is a $60 + GST participation fee for the Children’s Ensemble. Selected dancers will be required to submit this fee to accept the offered role, prior to the start of rehearsals.

Please note: In order to perform, dancers must not be current or former members of any professional arts organization

I hereby state that my child is not and never has been a member of any of the following organizations: Canadian Actors' Equity Association (CAEA), Actors' Equity Association (AEA), American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA), British Actors' Equity Association (BAEA), Union of British Columbia Performers (UBCP), Union des Artistes (UdA), Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA), or any affiliate of the above or any other performing arts union.

Rehearsals:

All rehearsals are conducted by Victoria Academy of Ballet, Royal Winnipeg Ballet Rehearsal Coordinator in Victoria, and will be held at Dance Victoria Studios: 2750 Quadra St, Victoria, BC V8T 4E8

Rehearsals will occur on Sundays, beginning after the September 12th audition.

A more detailed rehearsal schedule will be provided to the parents/guardians of selected students following the audition.

Starting November 23rd, dancers may be required for weekday evening rehearsals.

Starting November 25th, dancers must be made available for afternoon and evening costume fittings, as well as rehearsals with the RWB Company Dancers.

Dancers may be needed during school hours for Company rehearsals.

Role depending, rehearsals could begin as early as Sunday, September 13 (the day following the audition). Results for these roles will be communicated early evening on September 12. By auditioning you acknowledge you are available to attend a rehearsal on September 13 if needed.

Information Package:
The Royal Winnipeg Ballet will prepare an information package to be provided to parents/guardians of the selected children. The package will include:

-The Rehearsal Coordinator's contact name and email
-Make-up, hair, and rehearsal/performance uniform requirements
-Detailed rehearsal schedule, including technical and dress rehearsals, and performance schedules
-Drop off/Pick up times and locations for rehearsals and performances
-Dressing room information, Theatre Etiquette and Procedures Information sheet
-Suggested list for what to bring to the theatre for performances

Parent/Guardian Chaperones will be required and requested closer to the performances and will require a vulnerable sector police information check.
