Forensic Social Work Intensive:
Advanced Assessments, Reporting, and The Courtroom
online
This intensive is designed for experienced social workers seeking to strengthen their forensic assessment, writing, and testimony skills for court-involved practice. Grounded in ethical rigor and clinical sophistication, the program builds on participants' existing knowledge by exploring the complexities of forensic interviewing, bias analysis, credibility evaluation, and the translation of psychosocial findings into legally relevant narratives. Throughout the intensive, participants examine role clarity, ethical boundaries, and jurisdictional variability in forensic social work practice.
Rather than preparing participants to independently produce mitigating reports in every practice setting, this intensive provides a structured, hands-on experience in the forensic report-writing process. Participants develop a comprehensive forensic report, receiving guided instruction and structured peer feedback throughout the program. This experiential approach is designed to deepen understanding of the analytical framework, organization, and professional standards that underpin high-quality forensic reports while highlighting the continued importance of practice, supervision, and jurisdiction-specific requirements.
By the end of the intensive, participants will have completed a full forensic report, gained experience applying forensic reasoning to complex cases, and developed greater confidence in communicating psychosocial findings within legal contexts.
Participants will:
- Map and interpret the structure of the court system, including key legal actors, processes, and decision points relevant to forensic social work practice.
- Differentiate major forensic social work practice areas (criminal, civil, child welfare, mitigation, and related subspecialties) and analyze the distinct roles, standards, and expectations of social workers within each context.
- Critically evaluate personal, professional, and systemic biases and apply ethical decision-making frameworks to complex forensic scenarios involving high stakes and competing interests.
- Learn how to conduct and adapt advanced forensic interviews with respondents/defendants and collateral witnesses, demonstrating techniques that support accuracy, neutrality, and legal relevance.
- Translate clinical and psychosocial findings into clear, organized, and legally relevant forensic reports that meet professional and evidentiary standards.
- Produce and refine a comprehensive forensic report through staged drafting and structured peer review, incorporating feedback to strengthen clarity, objectivity, and defensibility.
This intensive awards a Certificate of Completion and provides advanced, practice-based training designed to strengthen your qualifications for forensic social work opportunities.
