Confidentiality. Let's honor one another by holding what is shared by others in Refugia in sacred privacy. Thank you.
Respect. Let's agree to not offer any unsolicited advice to others. Let's refrain from attempting to fix anyone. Let’s practice noticing and divesting from the overculture’s common practice of dominating others (or ourselves). Let's not utter words that can create discord and cause the community to break. Let's be mindful of the impact of our speech and aim to speak with respect, so that our words help to create and protect Refugia. Let's address any conflicts that occur directly with respect and a kind heart. Thank you.
Soul Manners. We ask that you intentionally treat everyone in the community with the utmost kindness, compassion, and respect, even if you don't like them. Each of us helps to create this shared culture that allows this work to work and that allows the space to be a refuge for us all. Let’s practice the manners that are missing in the overculture. Let’s welcome diversity and honor every individual in our ecosystem with kindness, respect, and warm regard. Practicing soul manners also includes giving credit where it’s due. Please honor your sources when sharing others' words and images, and please attribute us accordingly when sharing any teachings or practices from Refugia outside of our space. Thank you.
Presence. Let's lean toward embodied presence and avoid the fractured attention of multitasking or multi-screen activity during our time together. We know that during a 13-month immersion, things will come up that may require you to miss some meetings. We purposely welcome a “village-sized” group between 20-50 people. As this is not a huge group, we notice when you're absent. If you're going to say yes to this 13-month immersion, and if we're going to say yes to you taking a spot in the circle, we invite you to aim toward really showing up. There are ways of staying present and energetically connected to the group and the container even when you have to miss sessions. Please aim to do so. Thank you.
Responsibility. Let's all take responsibility for co-creating a life-giving experience in Refugia. This includes asking for what you need and also caring for the well-being of our village. Let’s practice true listening with one another and with ourselves. You are invited to honor your inner authority. You get to decide how you participate, knowing nothing is demanded. Let's aim to create a nourishing experience for ourselves and others. Thank you.
Curiosity. Let's practice reverent curiosity and humility, knowing how much we don’t know about one another or even ourselves. Let's meet in Rumi's field, out beyond ideas of right-doing and wrongdoing. Let’s actively endeavor to avoid being rigid or fundamentalist in our thinking and our language, and avoid trying to convince anyone of our views and beliefs. Let's instead bring our open minds, open hearts, authenticity, good humor, and a willingness to embody our values, rather than proselytize them. Thank you.
Courage. Courage means wholehearted participation. We ask you to plan on participating in Refugia with as much wholehearted engagement as possible. We invite you to stay connected and to recommit when necessary so you can really show up for this experience and for the community. This helps create a strong container and an authentic refuge for you and for the whole group. Thank you.
