Join us for the GEMS OF SOVIET ANIMATION: ETHNOFOLK TALES. Tap into the history chronicling the formation and development of Soviet animation over the twentieth century. We’ll discuss how it survived through wars, censorship, and political instability, as well as its stylistic influences and role in Soviet society. The course features a short selection of restored and translated cartoons.
About the Instructor:
Timofey Pozhitkov is a Russian filmmaker based in the United States. Timofey’s work centers around Eastern European communities, often dealing with displacement and cultural belonging. His debut short film, Katya, premiered at the 2026 Seattle International Film Festival.
