The Great Temples of New York: Beaux-Arts Architecture and the City Beautiful Movement
  • The Great Temples of New York: Beaux-Arts Architecture and the City Beautiful Movement

a ZOOM presentation with James Nevius, walknyc.com
  • Thursday, June 18, 2026

Live lecture begins at 6:00PM Eastern/3:00PM Pacific
  • New York: The Wonder City
  • As a sequel to our popular talk on Greek Revival architecture, we turn our attention in this presentation to the grandest of the grand: the Beaux-Arts buildings that dot the New York landscape like ancient temples. From Grand Central and Penn Station to the old Custom House, the New York Public Library, the "Tombs" jail, and so much more, we will look at everything from heroic arches to humbling banks to the ornate-but-practical restroom in Bryant Park and the tile work in the original IRT stations. Join us!

Your registration includes a recording of the presentation. Please note that this recording is hosted on Vimeo, not Zoom, and will be emailed to you about 24 hours after the conclusion of the talk.

  • Each ticket covers one (1) registered device. You do not need to watch the lecture as it is happening if that's inconvenient for you -- approxmately 24 hours after the talk, a link will be emailed to all registered participants so that you can watch the talk at your leisure on Vimeo. Your registration will appear on your credit card statement as “Michelle Nevius.”
