5 divisions

Advance Division 1st-3rd place trophies.  All other divisions  1st-5th place trophies.  All other players will receive a participation chess medal.

All players will receive a free Cool-Pop!

This tournament now offers an UNRATED players section for students K - 4th grade.

 

Every player K-12th grade who wants an official rating from US Chess must have a current membership from the United States Chess Federation to participate in one of the RATED divisions.

If you do not have a current membership ID please go to the US Chess website  https://new.uschess.org/form/membership 

Student memberships are $24 and are good for 12 months of tournaments.

Playing in one of the Rated Divisions?

This information will you understand Chess Ratings:

If your child is playing in their First RATED Chess Tournament, they are an UNRATED player. 

Unrated Players

Your child is in K-4th grade ..... They can play in the Beginners Unrated Division or one of the other Rated Divisions

Your child is in 5th-12th grade ..... They play in one of the Rated Sections

 

Rated Players ...... You play where your rating puts you!

1.  Beginners Division 1 ... Rating under 300 (Grades K-8th)

2.  Beginners Division 2 ... Rating under 500 (Grades K-12th)

3.  Intermediate Division ... Rating under 700 (Grades K-12th)

4.  Advance Division ... Rating under 1500 (Grades K-12th)

After the tournament, we have 72 hours to pay and submit the tournament to US Chess.  US Chess has 2-6 days to rate the tournament. 

Most students will get their first rating or an updated rating about a week after the event.  Parents can go to www.uschess.org to look up their child's membership to see their new rating.

Parents:

1. If your child has a rating that is under 200 (K-4th grade), they may play in the Unrated division.

2. If you want a harder section for your child, you can place them in a harder section ... They are "Playing Up" a section.

Awards Ceremony:

Starts at 4:30 .... We hope all students stay and be encouraged. 

WIN or LOSE ... All students will receive some awards!

Parents please stay to the end so that we can ENCOURAGE your child!!!

Our Goal: These events to be a positive experience!  If you win great, but if you lose you are LEARNING!!!  Losing is part of the game and we want to teach perseverance!!!

Asking for a BYE ... examples

If you know you will be late to the tournament (arriving around 11:30-11:45), but you want your student to participate you can receive a 1st round bye.  Your child will not play their 1st game, but will receive 1/2 points for that round, then your child would play the next 3 games.

If you know you need to leave early (leaving around 3:00), you can request a 4th round bye.  Your child would play 3 games and miss the last game, but receive 1/2 point score for that last game.

Children's Safety Policy:

- Parents are responsible for their children and their possessions!

- Students who are dropped off (Middle and High School Students Only) 

Please make sure they have lunch and snack money!

- If students are being dropped off, please let the tournament directors know.
