On the Fort Point Trail, a Town of St. George property, Ann will take us through pine and then dense deciduous forest on the boardwalk to listen and look for warblers and other songbirds. American woodcock and Swainson’s thrush have been seen in this preserve. At the end of the trail is the wide open field with old oak trees that juts out into the tidal St. George River. Look for woodpeckers and shorebirds and read about historic Fort St. George. From Thomaston, take Route 131 south to Wiley's Corner Rd. Turn right onto Wiley's Corner Road and the Fort Point Trail parking area will be on the right. From St. George, take Rt. 131 north to the second entrance of Wiley's Corner Rd. Turn left onto Wiley's Corner Rd. and the Fort Point parking area will be on the right. The parking area is visible from the road. Meet in the parking lot. Bring a jug to fill up on spring water at the edge of the parking lot after the walk!

  • The Friends of Maine Coastal Islands (FOMCI) National Wildlife Refuge are proud to sponsor the bird watching series “Bird Time on the Coast.” This series includes local bird experts who are knowledgeable about birds in our area who lead trips to some of their favorite birding hotspots along the coast of Maine. Bird Time on the Coast is open to all birdwatching abilities from beginners to advanced. Bring your binoculars or let us know ahead of time and we will provide them for you. Waterproof footwear and insect repellent are strongly encouraged. The trips are limited in number, so please sign up early.

Help us keep our programs running with a suggested donation of $10 for this bird tour.  If you are attending multiple walks, you can make a one-time donation of your choosing from the dropdown menu, and on subsequent walks, choose "0" since you have already made a donation. Donations go directly to supporting our seabird island interns and educational programs at the Maine Coastal Islands NWR Visitor Center!  We thank our bird leaders for volunteering their time so we can fully support our favorite wildlife refuge!
