Purposeful Collage is an online workshop by @gluepaperscissors, divided into two engaging classes and designed for both beginners and experienced artists looking to expand and refine their collage skills. Throughout the sessions, participants explore thoughtful approaches to composition, layering, and visual storytelling. The papers used in the process are created on purpose, serving as the foundation for the layered collage work developed during the workshop.
Class 1
Kim will introduce the foundational principles of collage composition. You’ll learn how to use a grid layout and explore the Rule of Thirds for effective placement of images. The session will cover composition principles and substrate selection, followed by a discussion on choosing appropriate papers and adhesives, including vintage papers. You’ll also participate in a hands-on activity where you'll select and arrange papers based on color schemes.
Class 2
Dives into advanced layering techniques for creating visual depth and narrative. Kim will guide you through layering techniques and cutting shapes to reveal underlying layers, enhancing texture. You'll learn to blend layers with paint, markers, and ink for seamless transitions. The class will conclude with finalizing your collages and a group reflection where each student presents their work.
Classes will be held on May, Wednesday 13th and 20th. No prior experience is necessary to join the workshop. Each session lasts 2 hours. The cost is $85 for both 2-hour online classes, with recordings access afterwards. Payable via PayPal.
