  • Booster Seat Use

We transport campers to field trips using Santa Cruz Learning Center vehicles.

Does this camper require a booster seat while riding in a vehicle?

Note: We have plenty of booster seats available—you do not need to provide one.

  • Beach & Water Safety

When we go on beach field trips, campers may be allowed to enter the water under close staff supervision and with restrictions based on the specific location.

Would you like this camper to wear a life jacket during water play or wading activities?

Note: If your child does not have a personal life jacket to bring, we have plenty available and can provide one.

  • Photo Release

Santa Cruz Learning Center may occasionally take photos during camp activities to showcase the fun and learning. These images may be used on our website, social media, flyers, or other promotional materials.

    • By selecting "Yes", you give us permission to include your child in these photos.
    • By selecting "No", we will ensure your child is not included in any promotional photos. We respect your family's privacy and will honor your choice.
  • Sunscreen Policy and Permission

We require all campers to wear sunscreen each day to help protect their skin from sunburn during outdoor activities. Please provide a labeled bottle of sunscreen with your child’s name clearly marked.

We have scheduled sunscreen application times during the day, and staff will remind campers when it’s time to apply. Depending on age and need, campers may either apply sunscreen themselves or receive help from staff with reapplication.

Parents are responsible for informing their child that they are expected to apply sunscreen to themselves or allow a staff member or volunteer to assist when reminded.

Please note: While we make every effort to ensure campers are protected from sun exposure, there is still a possibility that your child may get sunburned during camp. We appreciate your partnership in helping us minimize that risk.

  • Personal Property Policy

Santa Cruz Learning Center, staff, coorganizers, and volunteers are not responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged personal items your child brings to camp.

To help prevent loss or confusion, please label all belongings clearly with your child’s name—especially clothing, water bottles, bags, sunscreen, and beach toys. We recommend leaving valuables, electronics, and sentimental items at home.

Thank you for helping us keep track of everyone’s gear and belongings!

  • Transportation Policy

I give permission for Santa Cruz Learning Center staff members and volunteers to transport my child in camp-designated vehicles for daily off-site field trips and in the event of an emergency requiring medical care.

All transportation will be provided by licensed and insured staff and volunteers using vehicles equipped with seat belts and booster seats, as required by law.

We ask that you speak with your child about the importance of safe behavior while riding in camp vehicles, including:

    • Remaining seated at all times
Keeping their seat belt fastened for the entire ride
Using a booster seat if required based on their age, height, or weight

These guidelines help ensure the safety of your child and others during transport.

    Waiver of Liability for Transportation

I understand that while every reasonable precaution will be taken to ensure my child's safety during transportation, participation in off-site travel entails inherent risks. I agree not to hold Santa Cruz Learning Center, co-organizers, staff, or volunteers liable for any injuries or losses that may occur during transportation to or from camp activities or in an emergency.

  • Refund Policy

I understand that camp fees are non-refundable and non-transferable, except in the case of illness or injury that prevents participation and is verified by a physician.

We appreciate your understanding, as staffing, supplies, and materials are planned in advance based on confirmed registrations.

  • Behavior Policy

At Santa Cruz Learning Center, we strive to create a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all campers and staff. To support a positive experience for everyone, we expect all children to:

    • Treat others with kindness and respect
    • Follow staff directions
    • Keep hands, feet, and belongings to themselves
    • Stay with the group and within designated areas
    • Cooperate when it's time to leave a location, such as the beach or park
    • Keep camp friendly and positive—no swearing, name-calling, or rude talk

Behaviors such as hitting, biting, verbal aggression, destruction of property, or eloping (leaving the group without permission) compromise the safety and well-being of others and cannot be allowed at camp.

Our staff uses positive guidance and redirection to support campers in making good choices.

    This includes:

    • Giving clear, age-appropriate expectations
    • Offering choices when possible
    • Using calm, respectful language
    • Helping campers identify feelings and practice problem-solving
    • Providing space or time to cool down if needed
    • Redirecting to a different activity or peer group when appropriate

If a camper displays unsafe or harmful behavior to themselves or others, we will call a parent or guardian to pick them up. This will serve as a first warning, and the child may return to camp the following day.

If the behavior occurs again, the child will be dismissed from the program for the remainder of the session. At that point, no refund will be issued.

We are committed to working with families and welcome any insight into strategies that help support your child’s success in group settings.

Together, we can help ensure a safe and joyful experience for all campers.
