• Compasspoints New Perspectives

April 26 from 2-3:30 pm: Do you often ruminate, get stuck in your own pattern of thought, or feel overwhelmed by things or feelings in your periphery? This workshop uses art photography created with your cell phone camera and the written word, in a way that you’ve likely not experienced before, based on one aspect of dialectical behavior therapy. Please bring your cell phones, as you will be actively using them during parts of the workshop. Instructor, Aleka Artemis Munroe this class is not about learning photography techniques. It is how to use photography to clear the mind. Hosted at Aplomb Gallery 262 Central Ave, Dover, NH. Free parking in back off of Kirkland Street.

    • About the Instructor:

Artist Aleka Artemis Munroe sparks mindful writing in conjunction with photography she calls Compasspoints: new perspectives, used in motivational speaking, especially about resilience with chronic illness, trauma, life changes, and creative acceptance. Compasspoints grew out of a personal need to sort through the chaos in Aleka's life--a family member, chronic illness, C-PTSD and depression about feeling that these things controlled her life. Using photography in Dialectal Behavior Therapy to harness her focus away from the chaos, she began to see other perspectives of the scene in her camera lens. Then came the resilient words, which are essentially poem based on a picture or work of art, which is called an ekphrasis.

Aleka Artemis sees the world from numerous perspectives and teaches others to look for other perspectives by sharing this skill through the use of Compasspoints and visual/and interactive presentations. She was a trainer in a number of fields and a public school special ed teach, which necessitated teaching from numerous students’ perspectives and learning styles. Aleka Artemis lives and interactions by multiple perspectives , including teaching.
