• Meditative Momigami

    Join us April 4, 2026 from 11 am -12:30 pm. Pronounced mo-me-gô´me, Momigami is a Japanese art form of kneading paper into a durable fabric like texture that was traditionally used in Japan for making clothing and other items such as wallets and umbrellas. Some non traditional ways that people have used this type of paper have been in book binding or other creative crafts and artwork. In this workshop, you will be introduced to this process, learning a little more about how the technique that was traditionally done in Japan. We will also explore how people have taken inspiration from this original process and played with variations using many types of papers with oils or lotions to create similar kinds of products. You will be able to choose one of the techniques to try while we are together. There will be an option to use scented lotion or add essential oils but please let us know if you have any sensitivities or allergies to these. While you trying this paper process, you will also be offered an option to incorporate a therapeutic art structure can allow you to create momigami in a meditative way. Finally, we will be able to highlight some of the somatic and sensory experiences that occur in the art of Momigami. Hosted at Aplomb Gallery 262 Central Ave, Dover, NH. Free parking in back off of Kirkland Street.

    • About the Instructor: Rachel C is a multi-passionate artist with a background in teaching and making art with both kids and adults. Her current creative interests incorporate inspirations of natural cycles, personal growth and finding meditative presence through the joy of playing with materials such as fiber, clay, paint and repurposed materials. She enjoys weaving together sound, movement and images into a therapeutic and embodied practice.
