The Chapter 30 Artist in Residence Program is a 60-day opportunity designed to support emerging and experienced artists from Ventura County by providing dedicated studio space to create, experiment, and grow within the Chapter 30 creative community.
Selected residents receive access to a no-cost private studio space at C30. Studio size is determined based on availability and artistic needs, with typical spaces ranging from 8x12 ft to 10x10 ft.
This residency exists to give artists uninterrupted time, physical space, and community support to focus deeply and produce a strong, cohesive body of work.
Purpose
Chapter 30 believes art is a viable and sustainable career path. This residency is structured to support artists who are serious about their practice and committed to producing work that can enter the marketplace.
The goal is simple:
To provide space and structure that allows artists to create as much meaningful work as possible.
What Residents Receive
A no-cost private studio space (8x12 or 10x10 typical range)
Access to shared C30 amenities
Integration into the Chapter 30 creative community
Promotion through Chapter 30 platforms (when applicable)
The same general benefits as other studio members
Residency Requirements
Applicants must:
-Be actively working in a creative discipline
-Create work that can be accommodated within Chapter 30 facilities
-Provide 1–2 professional references
-Maintain an active social media presence
-Produce work that is sellable or commercially viable
-Commit to the full 60-day residency period
Residency Expectations
To ensure meaningful participation, residents must:
-Maintain a minimum of 12 hours per week of active studio practice
Documentation
-Provide process photos during the residency
-Allow Chapter 30 to use images of process and completed work for promotional purposes
Community Engagement
-Host one pop-up exhibition at Chapter 30. This may take place in the mini gallery space (accommodating approximately 6–15 works)
-Participate in open studio hours during select Chapter 30 events
Application Fee
A non-refundable $25 application fee is required to submit.
This fee helps support administrative review and ensures serious applicants.
Fee waivers may be requested if needed.
Residents are expected to maintain professionalism, respect shared spaces, and actively contribute to the creative environment throughout the duration of the program.
