This workshop introduces a missing discipline in the practice of change: resistance management. It provides consultants and change professionals with the frameworks and methods to anticipate resistance, understand its causes, and transform it into lasting support.
You will bring a current or upcoming technology initiative to work on during the session. Alongside a small group of other professionals in your field, you will apply a research-based approach to uncover the needs behind resistance and develop strategies that build genuine commitment to change.
A Missing Discipline for Change Practitioners
Consultants already know how to design change. This workshop teaches the next essential skill—resistance management—so you can diagnose, anticipate, and guide people through disruption with confidence and empathy. You will learn how to manage the human dynamics that determine whether change succeeds or stalls.
Strengthen Your Consulting Practice
- Add a proven, research-based discipline to your change management toolkit.
- Learn to work with the seven basic needs—ease, purpose, stability, competence, belonging, control, and integrity—that drive both resistance and adoption.
- Distinguish your practice by offering clients a deeper, needs-based analysis of stakeholder dynamics.
- Enhance your reputation as a trusted advisor who helps organizations navigate disruption with understanding rather than force.
Diagnose, Anticipate, and Build Lasting Support for Change
- Use field-tested frameworks and worksheets to map the real consequences of change—who is affected, how, and why.
- Develop detailed strategies that address the effects of disruption and root cause of resistance.
- Learn how to build lasting support for change by managing resistance at every stage, from first conversations through long-term adoption.
What You Will Gain
By the end of the sessions, you will be able to:
- Identify the root causes of resistance in technology and organizational projects.
- Build strategies that meet people’s needs instead of escalating opposition.
- Integrate resistance management into your project planning, communication, and leadership practice.
- Lead technology change with greater empathy, clarity, and measurable impact.
- Provide expert guidance to your clients and help them better manage their initiatives and teams.
A Highly Interactive Experience
This is not a lecture. It is a hands-on session limited to eight participants for maximum collaboration and feedback.
You will:
- Work directly on a real change initiative from your own practice.
- Exchange ideas and strategies with peers who face similar challenges.
- Receive individualized guidance from facilitators Jan Kaderly and Watt Hamlett.
- Leave with a customized resistance-management plan ready to use with clients.
As a Participant You'll Also Receive
- Change Killers Workbook (96 pages)
- Change Killers Action Pack – a 100-card deck with practical strategies for managing resistance ($39.95 value)
- Worksheets and templates to adapt for client engagements
