Tide Pool Friends Puppets or Pillows
    Thursday, July 3rd, 10am-12:30pm
Just for teens - get crafty with Penobscot Marine Museum! In this workshop, participants will use their creativity to make puppets or pillows inspired by Maine tide pool animals. Starting with a friendly sea star, participants will sew or glue felt pieces together creating a variety of animals such as a sea urchin, crab, or clam. Depending on the weather, this workshop will include a walk to the beach at Mosman Park for inspiration.

    Sardine Can Printmaking
    Thursday, July 3rd, 1:30pm-4pm
Inspired by elaborate Maine sardine can labels from the 20th century, teens will use templates or design their own sardine can. Then they will carve it into a rubber block and use the new stamp to decorate a cotton draw-string bag. This workshop will include a visit to Penobscot Marine Museum’s Sardineland exhibit.
This workshop is led by local artist and PMM Education Assistant Veronica Maresh Mead

    Ocean Mini Tapestry
    Thursday, July 30th, 10am-12:30pm
What do you see when you look at the ocean? Participants will recreate their views using a variety of yarns, cloth, and fibers to create an ocean tapestry. Depending on the weather, this workshop will include a walk to the beach at Mosman Park for inspiration.
This workshop is led by local artist and PMM Education Assistant Veronica Maresh Mead.

    Shell Art
    Thursday, July 30th, 1:30pm-4pm
Victorians loved decorating and crafting with nature and that includes using shells. This workshop will include a visit to the Penobscot Marine Museum’s Merithew House to get inspired by shell art pieces on exhibit. Then participants will create their own shell art. There will be a huge variety of shells, plus sand, seeds, and beads. Participants can choose whether they want to make a shell wreath, picture frame, sailors’ valentine, or a rectangular piece. All materials are provided.

Teens attending both morning and afternoon workshops can bring a brown bag lunch and eat it on campus or leave campus to enjoy lunch from a nearby business.
