SHOW PROMPT:
We invite artists to submit work for Field Notes: Art + Science, an interdisciplinary exhibition exploring the intersection of science and the visual arts. Drawing, seeing and observing were a key part of the development of the Scientific method. Artists and scientists have collaborated for centuries and have parallel processes of investigation inquiry and experimentation.
This show seeks artwork that engages with scientific ideas, methods, data, discoveries, or technologies—whether through direct collaboration with science or through personal, conceptual interpretation.
We are interested in work that sparks curiosity, invites inquiry, and makes complex ideas visible, emotional, or experiential.
This exhibit is curated by the Executive Director, Belle Carver Struck.
Some further ideas about the prompt:
The work can be about the "process" of art. This could be something like maybe you try a new method in your artmaking, or you submit a piece where you describe your unique process in the artwork statement -- show us the 'science' behind how you do your art!
You could also submit something more literal, such as a detailed drawing of a plant or a photograph of something in nature.
These are just some ideas and not all encompassing -- we are looking forward to seeing all of your creative responses!
