Registration is now open for Lay Ministry Courses on March 14, 2026. There will be two courses offered.

Lay Ministry Foundations is the starting point for Lay Ministry training in the Heartland Conference and is required for those seeking certification as lay ministers. By the end of this course, participants will have a firm foundation in the essentials of the Bible (Scripture), an understanding of how the Global Methodist Church came to be (history), foundational beliefs (theology), and an understanding of how the GMC is organized (polity). The Global Methodist Church Book of Doctrines and Discipline outlines the requirements for lay ministry, and this course fulfills a portion of those requirements. This course requires reading that must be completed before the day of the training.

Congregational Care is an advanced Lay Ministry course designed to build upon the foundation established in Lay Ministry Foundations. This course equips participants with practical and theological tools for caring for individuals and congregations, with an emphasis on pastoral presence, listening, confidentiality, and supporting the spiritual and emotional needs of others within the life of the church.

Hosted by Sabetha Methodist Church at 806 Main St., Sabetha, KS 66534, from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm.

Check-in begins at 8:30 am, with continental breakfast options available. Lunch will also be provided.

Each class is limited to 30 students, and there is a non-refundable course fee of $30. This does not include course books, which must be ordered separately.
