Call for Art
Honoring Our Roots Exhibit

The Intentional Creativity® Museum and the Sacred ECHOES of the Well Sisterhood are excited to announce a Call for Art for the upcoming virtual exhibition: Honoring Our Roots.

Calling all artists who identify as Black, Indigenous, and a Woman of Color! We invite you to submit your artwork that is representative of the Ethnicity, Culture, Heritage, Oneness, and Everlasting Sisterhood for women of color. This exhibit honors our roots - the authentic roots we have struggled to reconnect with and fight to ensure isn't erased. The Honoring Our Roots Exhibit is a powerful statement of who we are and a platform to allow our voices to be heard and our art to be witnessed.

Submissions are open to all women of color artists who participated in the recent Honoring Our Ancestors: A Lineage to Always Remember event guided by Sacred ECHOES Co-Director, Isabelle Guzman Stark, as well as any woman of color who would like to share their art which represents their roots.

This exhibit is unlike any other hosted by the Intentional Creativity Foundation! Each artist who is able to attend live, will present their artwork and the accompanying poetry and story of the art. For those artists who are unable to be with us live, there will be a virtual presentation of their art and writings following the live presentation from the artists present.

Note: The submission fee reflects the administrative and design costs associated with hosting the art call, exhibit, museum show, and promotion and marketing, as well as keeping this as part of our permanent museum collection and archive. All proceeds support our 501(c)3 non-profit organization, the Intentional Creativity Foundation, which funds our museum, art education, and scholarships for our current and future members and students.

PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS

1. Submit up to 5 unique works of art in any medium, with one of these artworks being the painting you completed during the Honoring Our Ancestors event (if you participated). Selected works should reflect your unique artistic voice and personal connection to the ethnicity, culture, heritage, oneness, and everlasting sisterhood for women of color. We encourage submissions that showcase your individual style and vision. All exhibits aim to celebrate diversity of expression within our creative lineage. Note: Each submission/image is $35. Please adjust the quanity of submissions at checkout.
2. Indicate your availability to present your artwork live during the event on February 21st. This is an opportunity to speak directly to the attendees about your art and allow your voice to be heard. It is a virtual artist's reception!
3. As MUSEA has a philosophy rooted in the power of Art + Story, we are asking each participant to share a short poem or writing (200 words or less) that reflects the 'story' of their submitted image. If you will not be able to attend in person and would like your words shared during the exhibit, please submit an audio recording of you reading your poem or writing or sharing the story of the artwork via email to naa.kwarley@musea.org letting us know which of your submissions the audio recording should be paired with.
4. Support the promotion of the Exhibit by sharing event details with your community (email, in conversation), posting on social media, newsletters, and personal invitations. We will provide you with all the promotional materials to help you share the Exhibit with plenty of time for you to promote. We also ask that you invite three guests to attend the show!

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

• Submit a high resolution photo of your artwork in PNG or JPG/JPEG format or a video for 3D artwork, video or performance in GIF, MPEG, MP4 or WMA
• Cropped without any other items in the background that may distract the viewer from the artwork.
• Photograph your work in natural light if possible as this offers the best results. If you are unable to photograph in natural lighting, please ensure that you photograph using the best lighting available to you.
