  • Sing Out! With Kirsty Martin

    4pm Friday 16th - 4pm Sunday 18th October 2026
  • About the event:

Singing together is one of the simplest and most joyful ways we connect – to ourselves, to each other, and to the moment we are in. It is a whole-body, mind-and-soul experience, a natural lift for the spirit, and a reminder that our voices belong together as much as they belong to us. And yes – it is great fun!

Sing Out! is a welcoming, inclusive singing weekend for every kind of singer: the curious, the rusty, the confident, and the quietly brave. There are no auditions, no solos, and no need to read music. Songs are taught by ear, drawing on the oral tradition, with an emphasis on shared sound, deep listening, and the pleasure of making something together.

Across the weekend, we will build an ensemble that feels generous and alive, exploring harmony, rhythm, dynamics, and simple lyric-making through playful, carefully guided group work. Sessions take place within the communal rhythm of life at Braziers Community, allowing space for laughter, reflection, conversation, and rest alongside focused singing. There will be an optional opportunity to share what we have made together at the end of the weekend.

Led with warmth, clarity, and humour, Kirsty creates spaces where people feel safe to experiment, take gentle risks, and rediscover the joy of singing in community. You will leave with songs in your body, a renewed sense of connection, and the quiet exhilaration that comes from finding your voice as part of a collective whole.

All ages welcome! Children welcome with a singing adult.

An optional extra overnight stay on Sunday (bed & breakfast) can be arranged directly with Braziers Park.

    About the facilitators:

Kirsty Martin is a Brighton-based choral director, composer, and community song leader with nearly 30 years’ experience creating inclusive, participatory singing spaces. Her work centres on collective voice as a way of building connection, confidence and shared meaning, bringing people together through song in ways that are playful, thoughtful, and deeply human.

Kirsty specialises in teaching by ear, drawing on the oral tradition to make singing accessible to everyone, regardless of experience. Her sessions balance structure with freedom, inviting curiosity, laughter, and attentive listening, while nurturing a strong sense of ensemble and mutual support. She is particularly interested in how singing functions within communal life – how shared breath, rhythm, and harmony can foster trust, reflection, and belonging.

Alongside leading choirs and workshops across the UK and internationally, Kirsty creates original choral work rooted in collaboration and lived experience. Her facilitation style is warm, clear, and gently encouraging, creating spaces where people feel safe to take risks, be playful and discover their voice as part of a collective whole.
