4/5th Grade Enrichment Class
Students will practice for the STEAM OLYMPIAD TEAM. The goal of this course is to prepare and practice the Math/Logic events that will be in the KCSOS Olympiad.
Syllabus/Topics will include: Logic Games and Cryptography: students work together to practice decoding standard ciphers, playing contig, circle tic-tac-toe, mancala, etc.; Problem-Solving Practice and Relay Races: Students work in pairs/groups to solve challenging math problems together in a friendly but competitive environment. Emphasis is on problem-solving strategies, accuracy, speed, and attention to details; Chalk Talks: students each choose a math topic to
prepare, and then present a mini-lesson on their topic to the class; Review all Olympiad events and choose which students will participate in each event. Students work with their teams to prepare.
Cost: $120.00 for 13 sessions for 4-5th grade students
Begins on Friday, Feb. 6 from 9:25-10:25 (will not meet during conference week)
*If your 4/5th grade student is currently enrolled in Friday Study Class they are allowed to register and participate in this enrichment class also. It is a seperate fee from the FSC fee.
All other students must be dropped off and picked up at building 3.
There may be some Home Day work required from time to time as well as these two critical deadlines:
- Olympiad participation is not explicitly required but highly encouraged. Deadline to register for the Olympiad with Mrs Cobar will be March 13, 2026.
- Mark your calendars: The KCSOS STEAM Olympiad Day will be on May 2, 2026, 8:30am-2:00pm, at Liberty High School.
