Thank you for your interest in the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras (WYSO)!

This audition form is for new prospective students and for current WYSO members who wish to audition for the next ensemble level for the upcoming season.

The deadline to submit this form is March 30.

After you submit your registration, you will receive a confirmation email with detailed audition instructions, required materials, and access to the audition excerpts.

Auditions will take place on the following dates by ensemble:
- Opus One Orchestra: April 23 and 24
- Sinfonietta Orchestra: April 20, 21, and 22
- Concert Orchestra (strings only): April 23, 24, and 25
- Philharmonia Orchestra (strings only): April 29, May 1, and 4
- Youth Orchestra (strings only): April 21, 22, and 24
- Woodwinds (all orchestras): April 20 and 25
- Brass (all orchestras): May 2
- Percussion (all orchestras): May 1
- Harp Orchestral Program: April 23

Audition Requirements
What to Prepare for Your Audition

Your audition will include several short components designed to give the judges a full picture of your musicianship:

 *Scales - Play the required scales for your instrument and level to show tone, intonation, and technique.
 *Solo selection - Perform a short solo (about 2 minutes) that shows your musicality; during the audition, you may use your music score and should say the title and composer before you begin.
 *Orchestral excerpts - Play the assigned excerpts chosen by our conductors to reflect the kind of music you’ll play in your WYSO ensemble.
 *Sight-reading (Strings and flute only) - String and flute players will do a brief sight-reading exercise to demonstrate real-time reading skills.

These elements allow us to evaluate technique, tone, rhythm, musicality, and ensemble readiness in a balanced and supportive way.

PLEASE NOTE:

If you plan on auditioning on more than one instrument, please contact wyso@wysomusic.org for more instructions. Students who audition for more than one instrument will need to complete this form for the additional instrument(s) but will only be charged one audition fee.
