Underdawgz Football Inc. is excited to kick off the 2026 Winter season at our new home, Hidden Lakes field in Martinez. Registration is open to both male and female Alhambra students, as well as current 8th graders that plan on attending Alhambra in the fall. Sessions will be held on Sundays from 4-6, rain or shine. We are currently capping enrollment at 40 players due to coaching capacity. Practices are split between conditioning/speed training and position work.
We are happy to announce that we have added a veteran offensive line coach to the Underdawgz, Joe Coniglio. He will be working with the big men when the specialty players move to 7on7 work. The Underdawgz started as a 7on7 organization but we want an outlet for all Martinez players to get their work in.
Please make sure you read through our website. We have a very high standard as it pertains to behavior and respect. We are a volunteer run non-profit and do not have the time or patience to deal with BS from the players. On that topic, I want to make you aware as parents that curse words will be used on the field by the coaches. If you are not comfortable with that, then this is not the right program for you. This is not intended to be brash, just transparent. We are all parents and have gone through too many sports and leagues to count at this point and want to set expectations correctly.
Speaking of expectations. We view winning as a bonus not a goal. The focus of our program is getting a little better every time we step on the turf. Become better players, better teammates, better people. We have a rally cry of “Nobody Cares. Work Harder.” This program is about winning more Tackle and Flag games in the fall, not a tournament in the spring. If we win we will go bonkers and celebrate, but we will not walk off the field with our heads down if we lose.
Specialty Players- As of right now we will be fielding one 18u/Varsity level 7on7 Tournament team that will participate in 3 events across March and April. This team is capped at 15 players. Preference will be given to returning UD players and then by grade. If we have more than 20 players register that want to compete in the tournaments we will split into two teams. We will be open to fielding a 15u team but it would require additional volunteers to coach and at least ten players to compete. Note- 7on7 is not flag football. It is physical two hand touch, and press coverage is allowed in the first 5 yards.
For linemen we are looking into 5v5 tournament opportunities and will discuss as practices progress.
As part of joining the Underdawgz, each player will get two shirts and a hoodie. Specialty players will get compression shirts, linemen will get dryfit style tshirts. We will have samples to try on for compression shirts at the first practice. Tournament players will be provided with softshell helmets (required for 7on7 play).
The training sessions are split into 5 week segments with a break for tournaments and Easter. Here is the tentative schedule for the season (Tournament dates subject to change):
2/15, 2/22, 3/1, 3/8, 3/15: Sunday Workouts at Hidden Lakes, 4-6
3/21-3/22 7on7 Association San Jose
3/28-29: Get Sports Focus Tournament 7v7 San Jose
4/5: Easter Holiday, off week
4/11-12 Get Sports Focus Tournament 7v7 San Jose
4/19, 4/26, 5/3, 5/10, 5/17: Sunday Workouts at Hidden Lakes 4-6
