    Sensory Integration in Action:

    Tools and Techniques for School Settings

     
    Learning Outcomes:
     
    1. At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to differentiate between Ayres Sensory Integration® (ASI) and sensory-based interventions (SBI) and describe the role of each in the school setting.
     
    2\.At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to identify evidence-based sensory intervention strategies that can be implemented within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework, with a specific focus on Tier 1 and Tier 2 levels.
     
    3\.At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to apply evidence-based sensory strategies to support students' needs.
     
    This session will provide an overview of the implementation of sensory integration in the school setting. The session will focus on the difference between sensory-based interventions and sensory integration. The session will provide practical ways to implement evidence-based interventions in the school setting through a multi-tiered systems of supports model. A specific focus will be provided on how to successfully implement evidence-based interventions at the Tier 1 and Tier 2 levels.

    About the Speaker:

    Dr. Piller is the owner and director of Piller Child Development, an outpatient pediatric therapy company with three locations in the greater Phoenix area. She has advanced training in sensory integration and also specializes in feeding therapy. She received her masters in occupational therapy from Temple University and her PhD in occupational therapy from Texas Woman’s University. Dr. Piller performs research in practice with a focus on knowledge translation and the development of evidence-based treatment protocols. She volunteers with the American Occupational Therapy Association in various capacities and with the American Occupational Therapy Foundation. She is the author of Implementing School-Based Occupational Therapy Services: A Multi-Tiered Approach to Sensory Processing Needs and has several national and international publications, presentations, and podcasts.
