The intensive is divided into morning and afternoon sessions. Please note that you will attend the same morning and afternoon sessions on both days.
Morning Sessions
Wa no Ichi: Movement and Energy
- Explore where energy begins in the body, bringing full-body connection to even a single “don”
- Embody Wa no Ichi’s rhythm through our drive, sound, and specific techniques
- Find the “feeling” of the piece by working together in person
Katsugi: Becoming One with the Drum
- Discover the ergonomics of “becoming one” with the katsugi okedo
- Apply patterns from “Minnasong” to put our technique into practice
Afternoon Sessions
Omiyage: Beyond the Notes
- Learn to initiate strikes from the hara to create a grounded, resonant sound
- Explore different intonations of "Don" to enhance phraing and preparation
- Internalize kuchishoga to solidify timing and flow
- Master the music's "ebbs and flows"
Naname Fundamentals: Strength and form
- Break down the stroke from the ground up
- Get plenty of repetitions with hands-on guidance
- Use lines from Omiyage to piece everything together
