We are all shocked and deeply dismayed by the catastrophic antisemitic attack at the Bondi Beach Menorah lighting in Sydney.
It is tragic—and chilling—how openly and violently antisemitism once again reveals the depth of its hatred and evil. This attack was not only an assault on a single event or community; it was an attack on Jewish people everywhere.
In moments like these, it is natural to feel fear. We may even feel the urge to retreat, to hide our Jewish identity and heritage. But intuitively, we know that this is not an option.
Thousands of years of Jewish history call on us to do the opposite.
Thousands of years of Jewish perseverance depend on us to stand proud, and fearless.
Thousands of years of endurance have taught us that antisemitism must become a rallying cry—to shine even brighter.
Thousands of years of perfecting the world have proven that no matter how powerful evil appears, it cannot prevail against light.
In response to the horrific events in Sydney, we are launching the Lamplighter Fund.
The Lamplighter Fund will support meaningful projects at our center and throughout the broader East End community, dedicated to fostering Jewish pride, education, and empowerment. Its goal is to inspire Jewish men, women, and children to see themselves as Lamplighters—bringing light not only within the synagogue walls, but into every aspect of life.
A portion of the funds raised will also be allocated to enhancing and upgrading our security efforts, ensuring a safe and protected environment for our community.
Phase One of the Lamplighter Fund is to raise $180,000.
As part of your year-end giving, we invite you to become a Lamplighter and help shine a powerful light that will, please G-d, illuminate the darkness of our times.
