Call for Art - Feb/March Gift Shop

Selection Process

Work for the gift shop will be lightly juried to enable a varied and diverse group of participating artists and media, while also focusing on the goals of the gift shop: enticing new NAA visitors to make first-time purchases, associating NAA with small gift-giving artworks. Items should be no more than $200 each.

Eligibility

This call for art is open to Newburyport Art artist members -- all ages and levels! Membership must remain in good standing through the end of the Gift Shop, March 28th

• Accepted Media: All media welcome
• Hand-rendered greeting cards
• 2D dimensions no larger than 12 inches in any direction
• 3D dimensions no larger than 12 inches in any direction, weighing 5 pounds or less
• All work must be for sale
• Artworks should be priced under $200

Important Dates

• Submission deadline: Saturday, January 10th (11:59pm)
• Notification/Confirmation of Selection: Wednesday, Janaury 14th (11:59pm)
• Art Drop-off: Saturday, Sunday, February 1st (11:00am-5:00pm)
• Gift Shop dates: Thursday, February 5th - Sunday, March 28th
• Pickup of unsold works: Saturday, March 28th (5:00-7:00pm) & Sunday, March 29th (11:00am-5:00pm)

Entry Fees: Fixed $20 for up to three works (you have have up for 4 variations within each work); no Artist Plus discount or free entry for gift shop calls

• No free entries for Artist Plus members to gift shop calls (only exhibitions).
• A work can have variations (different styles/colors/sizes - within reason), and it will count as only one work during the submission process.
• It is possible that some accepted variations (if variations are submitted) might not be displayed all at once if space is limited. We will try out best to rotate and put additional variations out as work sells.

A Note about variations

• In 2026 we hope to create clearer guidelines for submitting variations
• What counts as a variation? Items that are around the same size, overall design and price is a good example of a variation. This could be 4 butter dishes that are different colors, or four small bird paintings that are the same size and price with different birds.
• What does not count a variation? If your pieces are different prices, that is not a variation. An example could be 3 cat photos, all different prices. Those should be submitted as individual entries.
• How many variations can I bring? 4 variations per item, but please reach out if you feel that additional variations would be approptiate for your item artcall@newburyportart.org 

Submission Guidelines

• Artists must upload at least one digital image per work. If submitting work that has variations, please provide multiple images (or one image with all the variations)
• No artwork substitution is allowed (other than variations, such as color, size). 
• Submission of your entry acknowledges the right of the NAA to reproduce artwork for marketing purposes.
• The NAA reserves the right to decline any submission, or to remove a selected work, for any reason.

Sales and Insurance

• All work must be for sale, unless there is an agreement made with the Executive Director.
• The NAA retains a commission of 25% for works sold. Artist gets 75%
• If a work sells, the artist will be notified via email and asked to confirm their mailing address
• Newburyport Art will make every effort to issue commission checks to artists for any show sales within 30 days after the close of the exhibition.
• Works will be handled with all possible care. The NAA provides insurance up to 75% of the value declared by the artist from the day of receipt of the artwork to the final published pick-up date.
• The NAA is not responsible for any work not picked up by the end of the designated pick-up window of time.
• A late fee of $20 may be charged at the discretion of the NAA for any work left beyond the pickup period unless prior arrangements are made with the office.

A few notes before you begin:

• There is a "Save" button that will save your progress. You may then be prompted by JotForm to follow a number of steps for proper saving.
• Please label all images with your name and title of work, such as: FirstNameLastName_Artwork Title.jpg
• If you use a Comcast email, the Jotform automatic email confirmation may be blocked. Please email us at artcall@newburyportart.org for a copy of your submission if needed

To exhibit in the February / March Gift Shop, you must hold an Artist, Artist Plus, or Early Career membership through the end date of the show — March 28th, 2026
