  • White Tail Deer Hunting 101. 2-Day Course

    September 18 & 19, 2026 from 9:30am to 4:30pm. Fines Creek, NC
  • Do Not be Fooled.

Hunting is not as simple as some make it sound. **Deer Hunting 101** isn’t about sitting in a cozy box stand over a feeder you’ve maintained all year. This is real, intentional hunting—learning how to read the land, understand patterns, and make smart decisions in the field. A lot of seasoned hunters forget how much knowledge they’ve gathered over the years. It’s easy to forget what it’s like to be the *new guy.* Trust me, there’s plenty to learn. Even the most experienced hunters are still observing, studying, and sharpening their skills every season. This class is where that journey starts.
  • Don't Miss This Class!!!

On **September 18 & 19, 2026**, we’re offering a no-nonsense class on how to hunt deer in the Appalachian Mountains. If you’ve landed here, you’re already ahead of most beginners. I’ve heard it plenty—*“I can shoot a deer, how hard can it be?”* I used to think the same… until I realized how much I didn’t know. Luck isn’t a plan. This isn’t bait-and-wait hunting. No corn. No apples. No cozy blinds. This is learning how to hunt the right way—by reading terrain, tracking movement, finding food sources, bedding, rubs, scrapes, prints, and more.At **The Piked Antler Project**, hunting is taught as a survival skill—knowledge that serves you whether the world is fine or not. This isn’t about shortcuts or breaking laws. It’s about learning real, ethical skills that make you a capable hunter now. You’ll learn how to find and read sign, use barometric pressure and weather shifts to your advantage, and understand how deer actually move. Hunting isn’t luck—it’s skill, and this class will set you on the right path.
  • THE INTENTION:

I am a firm believer that a good leader/instructor always has 1 intention in mind: "Make our students better than we are." I have spent hundreds of hours in the woods either hunting or scouting/tracking as well as hundreds of hours sitting quietly in the forest while hunting. Trust me, sitting for 12 hour days in one spot gets extremely frustrating when you don't see any game. This has motivated me to become the best possible hunter I can so I can avoid spending so much time frustrated. In short, I've learned how to hunt and hunt well. Our goal is to share the knowledge that we've acquired from hundreds of hours in the forest hunting. What we've learned from hunters all over the country, documentaries, books, videos, lectures, classes and time in the field, will be filtered down to you. What this means is that the decades of knowledge we have will be condensed in a 1-day class filled to the brim with the real world need-to-knows. After this class, you'll have all the information to not only start hunting the next day, but you'll have outclassed some hunters that have been hunting for years. Yes. We're that Good!!!!
  • What is taught on Day 1?

Day 1: Foundation & Field ReconnaissanceDay 1 is all about building your foundation. We start in the classroom covering the science of camouflage—all 7 fields that matter, not just clothing. We'll dive into scent control strategies, tree stand versus ground hunting, mountain versus flatland hunting, and what to bring on any hunt. The afternoon takes everything to the field. You'll learn how to identify, read, and use sign. We'll study food sources including winter ID, choose tree stand locations, and set up game cameras. We'll be scouting live terrain and interpreting real sign. Day 1 builds your knowledge base and the "why" behind every decision.
  • What is taught on Day 2?

Day 2: Application & MasteryDay 2 puts everything into practice. Morning is hands-on—setting up tree stands, learning safety protocols, running mock scenarios, and practicing scent control in real conditions. The afternoon is where things get serious. We run hunting games and challenges to test your decision-making under pressure. You'll present strategies, defend your choices, and get thorough feedback. By the end of Day 2, you'll have the confidence and skills to adapt to whatever the woods throw at you.
  • Bonus: How to Process Deer-November 21, 2025

PLEASE do not go hunting without learning how to process the animal. This standalone class covers field dressing, quartering, butchering, and meat care. You can add it to the 2-day course at a discount or take it separately, but either way, it's essential knowledge for any hunter.
  • What to Know

Nothing! :) No previous knowledge is needed. You do need to have a moderate fitness level because we will be walking 2 to 5 miles during class in the mountains. You will be walking some on logging roads, and some will be up and down mountain sides. Hunting takes patience and great attention to detail, which means class will NOT be a "grind." We will be taking our time and walking at comfortable paces so we can pick up as much sign as possible.
  • What to Bring

Knife, snacks and/or lunch, water and/or gatorade, appropriate clothing for walking through thick brush, appropriate hiking boots, pen & paper. Extra Credit* Download and study the hunting app called OnX Hunting.
