Pets in Rentals update

The Residential Tenancy Amendment (Pets) Act 2025 has now commenced on the 20th March 2026.  From that date, a tenant has a right to request permission to keep a pet and a property owner cannot unreasonably refuse a tenant's request for consent to keep a pet.

Consumer, Building and Occupational Services have created a number of fact sheets and it is recommended to become familiar with the changes and what it may involve for your rental property.
