Los Angeles Youth Classical Competition for Piano and Strings (presented by Fried Music)

Fried Music presents its inaugural annual music competition on Sunday, January 18, 2026, in downtown Alhambra.

The final application deadline is January 2, 2026.

This event celebrates exceptional young string players and pianists across multiple age categories, offering monetary awards to recognize artistry, dedication, and promise. Additional special prizes may be conferred at the discretion of the jury to honor outstanding performances.

String Division (Violin, Viola, Cello):
Category A: Ages 6 to 9 years old
Category B: Ages 10 to 13 years old
Category C: Ages 14 to 18 years old

Piano Division:
Category A: Ages 6 to 9 years old
Category B: Ages 10 to 13 years old
Category C: Ages 14 to 18 years old

Application Requirements:

For classical pianists, violinists, violists, and cellists
Students must be available to compete in-person in Alhambra on the day of the competition, Sunday, January 18, 2026.
Completed application is required. The application fee is non-refundable. (Waived for Winter Intensive participants.)

Competition Repertoire Requirements:

Repertoire is free choice for all divisions and categories. Participants are encouraged to select works that best demonstrate their musicality, technical command, and overall artistry.

Maximum time limit:
- Ages 6 to 9 years old - 5 minutes
  Ages 10 to 13 years old - 5 minutes
  Ages 14 to 18 years old - 7 minutes
If your piece of choice is significantly shorter than the maximum time limit, a second piece may be performed. If the repertoire exceeds the maximum, the jury reserves the right to stop the performance at the time limit without penalty.
String players must bring a pianist if performing a work that requires accompaniment.
Bring at least one copy of your music for the jury.
