We are so excited that you’re here and applying for a Challenge internship! We look forward to hearing about your motivation, interests, and the unique strengths you hope to bring to this adventure and hands-on learning experience.
This position embraces an interdisciplinary approach, welcoming applicants with ecological, cultural, artistic, or community-focused research interests connected to the Ohio River. As part of the application, interns will be asked to describe their proposed area of interest and how it relates to the river corridor. All interns are required to participate fully in all three legs of the Challenge, contributing both as active expedition participants and as members of the RESTORE Lab team. You are welcome to articulate other interests beyond this, as well.
We truly want to see is your passion—what you love, what excites you, and what you hope to learn during this experience. This is not an application for your future career or a graduate program; it’s an application for a 23-day river expedition designed to be meaningful, challenging, and fun.
Interns who complete the Challenge will have the opportunity to present at the Ohio River Way's annual summit and potentially at other events. Here's the storymap from students on the RESTORE Lab in 2025.
Good luck, and thank you for sharing your story with us. We can’t wait to review your application!
