UVA's Clay Place is a community clay studio located in Roseburg on the Umpqua Valley Arts campus. This studio offers students and artists a high-qualit, professional ceramic studio environment to build their art practice and developt heir skills. The studio hosts multiple workshops & classes throughout the year, with four Open Studio Terms that run for 8-weeks at a time. Each term offers ample studio time and various studio amenities depending on your registration type.
In this open studio model, there are three enrollment options available:
- Open Studio+Class: This enrollment type is for those who are new to ceramics and need a little extra guidance/support from our instructors. This option provides open access to the studio hours throughout the term, access to classes up to two times per week (Wednesdays and Saturdays), and full use of the available Studio Amenities listed below.
- Open Studio: This enrollment type is for self-guided and experienced (at least 6 months worth) ceramic artists who do not need access to the term classes. The Open Studio option provides students with full use of the available Studio Amenities listed below.
- Drop-In Punch Pack: This is for registrants who might have their own home studio set-up to start their work, but lack the glazes and kilns needed to fire/finish their pieces. IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ:
- ALL registered students with no prior clay experience are required to register for the Open Studio+Class enrollment.
- Open Studio registrants who may have clay experience but have not registered for a term at The Clay Place before must attend orientation on the first Wednesday (5pm-6pm) and the first Saturday (10am-11am) of the term to learn the rules and guidelines for the studio. Please reach out for orientation alternatives if these days/times do not fit your schedule.
- While our studio can handle a lot of work each term, The Clay Place is not a high-volume production studio. Our studio hosts up to 50 registrants during a term alongside multiple youth and adult programming outside of the term that share the same kilns as the Open Studio. Please be advised that our instructors will be monitoring student output to ensure that each student has space in the kiln and all work is finished in a timely manner throughout the term. Students who produce a high volume of works may be asked to reduce their output if it starts to affect the output of other students.
After signing up, you will receive a confirmation email with your registration information. Prior to the start of the new term, you will receive information about the term in an email with a Welcome Packet from ashley@uvarts.com up to two weeks after the Non-Member registration date.
