    THE DETAILS

Calling all birders! The Birds of Yamnuska Tour is your chance to step off the beaten path and explore parts of the Sanctuary not normally open to the public. Guided by an experienced birder and wolfdog expert, you will experience the Sanctuary like never before as you connect with nature through both birding and wolfdogs. As you journey across our 160 acres of forest and fields, you will enjoy exclusive access while learning to spot and identify the many bird species and meet the wolfdogs that share this landscape.

If weather conditions are not suitable, we may need to reschedule the tour. Any changes will be communicated with a minimum of 7 days’ notice.

This is a semi-private experience with a maximum of 15 participants per session. A minimum of 7 participants is required for the tour to run. Please note: this is a walking and standing tour.

     WHAT'S INCLUDED?

    • Explore the fields and forests of the Sanctuary with an experienced birder, spotting and identifying a variety of species, including in areas not open to the public.
    • A Guided Tour of the Sanctuary Pathways with a Wolfdog Expert
    • 20-minute enrichment activity/wisdom session with one of the Sanctuary wolfdog packs
    • Access to the Sanctuary Walk pathways following the tour to explore at your own pace (self-guided)

Since the Sanctuary does not open until 10:00 am, you'll have exclusive access at one of the best times for birdwatching! Birds are more active and frequently spotted in the early morning, making this an ideal opportunity to observe a variety of species. The wolfdogs are also often most active between 8:00 am and 10:00 am, as this is a cooler point of the day, and some of our shyer wolfdogs tend to be more confident during these times.

The guided portion runs from approximately 8:30 am to 10:00 am (with the possibility of going a little longer). After that, you are welcome to enjoy the Self-Guided Sanctuary Walk at your own pace any time until 5:00 pm.

Please note: sightings of wild birds cannot be guaranteed, but our knowledgeable birder will do their best to maximize your chances.

    WHAT TO BRING

    • This tour takes place entirely outdoors, so please dress for the weather.
    • Participants will be walking on natural terrain, including grassy fields and uneven surfaces, so please wear suitable footwear.
    • Binoculars are suggested if you have them, though not required.
    • Cameras are welcome.

    CANCELLATIONS

Should you need to cancel your booking, you must do so 7 days prior to your visit in order to receive a refund.

Any cancellations or changes received outside the cancellation policy, late-comers or no-shows, will not be rescheduled or refunded. You will be charged the full amount, and it will be considered a non-receipted donation to the Sanctuary. We understand there are some circumstances that are unavoidable, and we will always try to be as accommodating as possible.

    AGE REQUIREMENTS & FITNESS LEVEL

The minimum age requirement to participate is 15 years old. Please note there will be lots of walking throughout the Sanctuary, so participants should be comfortable on their feet for an extended time.
