Holiday Workshop Series: Sgraffito

Sgraffito Workshop:

November 15, 2025 | Saturday | 10:00am - 3:00pm | Join instructor Ashley Cluver to create your own functional ceramic pieces in this one-day workshop!

In this ceramics workshop, participants will be able to create their own functional pieces featuring their own designs! Working with instructor Ashley C, you will learn and use basic handbuilding skills to create trays, dishes, and other fun and useful items out of clay from 10am-12pm. After an hour lunch break students will return to the studio at 1pm to apply underglazes and engobes to the surface of the clay and use a technique called “sgraffito” to carve and draw your own designs onto the surface of the clay.

After the workshop, UVA Staff will fire the works and coat them in a clear so that the colors pop, and any functional pieces are waterproof and food safe.

This is a great workshop for a group activity so we encourage friends and family to sign up together. The theme is “winter”, but participants are welcome to follow their own design ideas and come with sketches to work from.

Payment and Refund Policy: Full payment at time of registration is required. Up until two weeks prior to the start of the event, you will receive a full refund (minus a $10 service charge) should you need to cancel your registration. However, cancellations made after this two-week time frame are nonrefundable. Should UVA cancel the event, all participants will receive a full refund or credit toward future classes.
