  • Can I participate in the competiton online?

    No, you have to be present at Gurdwara Sahib Sukh Sagar (347 Wood Street, New Westminster) at your chosen check-in time on October 25, 2025.

    What group am I in?

    Group number is based on your year of birth.

    Group 8 (2006 - 2009)

    What banis do I need to memorize ?

    Group 8 - Japji Sahib, Jaap Sahib, Tav-Prasad Savaiye, Chaupai Sahib, Anand Sahib, Rehras Sahib and Kirtan Sohila

    Group 7 - Japji Sahib, Jaap Sahib, Tav-Prasad Savaiye, Chaupai Sahib and Anand Sahib

    What else do I need to know to prepare for the competition?

    Along with the memorization of the banis, participants will answer 12 general knowledge questions, name the 5 Kakaars, 5 Takhts, 5 Piaare, 4 Sahibzaday, and 11 Gurus.


    What are the 12 general knowledge questions ?

    Once you are done registering online, you will receive the full syllabus package along with your registration information in your registration confirmation email.  


    Who is the Gurmukhi writing section of the competition for ?

    Groups 3 - 8


    What is the Gurmukhi writing section of the competition?

    Participants should be able to copy a line written in Gurmukhi and rewrite it neatly.


    Do I decide my group number ?

    No, when you enter your year of birth, you will automatically be assigned the group number.


    Do I decide my category of competition ?

    Yes, while registering, you have to choose either "OPEN" or "SYLLABUS"

     

    Can I compete in both categories ?

    No, one person can't participate in both categories.

     

    What is the difference between OPEN and SYLLABUS ?

    Syllabus competition: participants will only need to memorize the bani listed above for their group. Any extra bani or shabads will not be heard. 


    Open competition: participants will be expected to know more than the banis listed above for their category. Any bani not listed in the group will be considered extra bani. Any shabads are also allowed to be considered in open competition. To win a prize the participant will need to clear the syllabus with a 70% mark minimum.


    What will help me get extra marks ?

    Proper pronunciation, proper communication in Punjabi, and suitable Sikh dress code will award extra points


    What forms of prizes are there ?

    - every participant will receive a certificate and participation prize. 

    - each category has 5 prizes

    - participants who come within the proper check-in time will be given a door prize ticket 


    When do I arrive at the gurdwara ?

    When you register online, you will be given a one hour slot to choose between 8:00am - 3:00pm. You have to arrive at the check-in table between that one hour window.


    What happens if I miss the registration deadline ?

    You can come to the gurdwara on the day of the competition and participate. You will get a participation prize but won't be considered for the top 5 prizes in your group.  


    When and where is the prize distribution ?

    5:00pm at the main hall on the day of competition. 


    What happens if I'm not there at 5:00pm ? 

    You can send a representative to pick up the prize when your name is called but can't come later to pick up the prize.
