Class description: This class will be an introduction to well-known folk-tales and archetypes that show mothers, pregnant people, and marginalized individuals reclaim their power and autonomy through hauntings and rebellions. We will discuss contemporary re-interpretations of La Llorona--- the Mexican Weeping Woman who now haunts border patrol agents or Mary Hamilton--- the young Scottish 15 year old girl (sometimes as young as 11) who insisted on wearing white and gold to her own beheading after being impregnated by the King. This class will also use interactive storytelling and tarot cards so attendees can recreate their own stories, with alternate endings and healing narratives.
Instructor: Paulina (she/her) is a scholar and professor who researches and teaches about Folklore, Gender, the Supernatural, Family and Community Health, and Latinx Feminisms.
More info: The recording and any accompanying eductional content of the class will be sent a few days after the course and will be available to registrants for 30 days.
