The DANCE PRESCRIPTION Program is an audition-entry 12-month jazz technique extension program for talented and dedicated dancers. Based in Melbourne and Sydney in Australia, it is specifically designed to enhance dancers’ technical ability and artistic vocabulary with a focus on goal setting, injury prevention, efficient and effective home practice. But above all, the program aims to help their self-confidence skyrocket!

The DANCE PRESCRIPTION team trains in three separate age-based groups: the Medical School team (6–10yrs), the Preclinical team (10–13yrs) and the Clinical team (12yrs+). Dancers in these teams attend group Dance Conditioning and Jazz Technique classes, followed by Learning Dissection sessions every second Sunday.

Training at DANCE PRESCRIPTION is fun and exciting, but it’s important to note that the dancer's success is largely due to the home training component. Dancers who see the best results continually devote time to home practice. If your dancer can't stop training at home, they will LOVE this program. Think of DANCE PRESCRIPTION as a recipe for success. Attending classes is like gathering all the finest ingredients — you get the essential knowledge, tools and technique — but it’s at home, where you apply these skills and practice consistently, that you cook up progress and make the recipe come to life.

At DANCE PRESCRIPTION, we see our dancers as one united team across several locations, so team members are always welcome to join classes and trainings in any state — not just their own.

Similar to a tutor in academic subjects like Mathematics or English, this Accelerated Extension Program is intended to complement the dancer’s regular dance studio training, not replace it. For best results, dancers should also be engaged in their home studio and have solid ballet, jazz and choreographic training.

MELBOURNE UPDATE:
👉 For Melbourne dancers, we’re thrilled to announce that in 2026 we’ll be offering two locations for the very first time — our regular Northside base in Thornbury, and a brand new Southside location in Moorabbin for dancers based on that side of town. Teams will be loosely divided based on where you live, however, please note we reserve the right to adjust placements between locations to ensure the best team cohesion and dynamics.

SYDNEY UPDATE:
👉 In 2026, we’re thrilled to be expanding our Sydney program to include the Med School (6–10yrs) age group, alongside our Pre-Clinical (10–13yrs) and Clinical (12yrs+) teams. This means even more dancers will have the opportunity to experience the DANCE PRESCRIPTION technique, and we can’t wait to welcome new faces into our growing community.

👉 Please note: our Gold Coast program will be running with a mid-year intake only in 2026, but we look forward to being back there in full swing soon!

AUDITION REGISTRATION FORM

DANCE PRESCRIPTION is an audition entry only program.

Please register your dancer's age as it will be on April 1st 2026. Age groups for auditions will be divided into junior (11 years and under) and senior (12 years and over). Your dancer is required to attend ONE of the auditions for their age groups on ONE of the days only.

Please ensure you register your dancer in the correct age group.

Auditions for the MELBOURNE team will be held in person only on the 30th of November and the 13th of December.

Call backs will be held face to face on December 14th. It is not imperative that your dancer attends call back auditions however if they are unable to attend callbacks, please let Dr. Lisa know prior to their audition so she can assess them appropriately.

Please note, your audition in either location is valid for a Melbourne team position, at the conclusion of auditions we will place successful dancers in the location that makes the most sense for the dancer and the team!

VIRTUAL AUDITIONS

Wanting to audition for the Melbourne or Sydney programs but unavailable on audition day? We will offer a limited number of virtual audition slots. If none of the face to face audition dates work for you, please contact us via email drlisa@dance-prescription.com to discuss the option of a virtual audition. Please be advised that while virtual auditions are available, they are not considered equivalent to in-person auditions. Whenever possible, we strongly encourage attending face-to-face auditions to ensure the best experience and opportunity for assessment.

As part of this workshop, media including images and videos of the students will be taken. We are often dazzled by the talent of the students in front of us and love to share this to help inspire and educate other dancers worldwide. This consent form will enable the DANCE PRESCRIPTION team (including Dr. Lisa Ellis and other staff members) to spread footage of an exceptional feat via social media. DANCE PRESCRIPTION staff always aim to publish images of students that are flattering and showcase their abilities.

Note: It is recommended you have access to your child’s social media site or run their account in order to ensure their social media safety. If you have any questions about the risks of social media, please speak to Dr. Lisa Ellis.

DANCE PRESCRIPTION are passionate about Safe Dance practices. The content will be taught based on safe evidence-based technique for growing bodies but DANCE PRESCRIPTION cannot take any responsibility for injuries that occur during or as a result of this audition class.

It is a condition of participation in this workshop that this consent is given. Should you not wish to consent, we cannot guarantee that a photograph or moving image will not contain the likeness of your child therefore it is safest if your child does not participate where consent is not given. Photographs and videos of the dancers WILL be taken during the workshop both by Dr. Lisa Ellis, her media team and professional photographers.

We, the undersigned, hereby give permission for the child in our care (as registered for this workshop) to be used in any still and/or moving image being video footage, photographs and/or frames and/or audio footage taken by Dr. Lisa Ellis or an associated guest photographer to DANCE PRESCRIPTION Workshops. We also give permission for any member of the DANCE PRESCRIPTION team to use any of the aforementioned still or moving images for any of the following uses:

Advertisements, marketing, leaflets or any other use such as for training, educational or publicity purposes.
Publishing in printed or electronic publications, web sites or social media sites such as Instagram and Facebook.
I further agree that my child’s name and identity may be revealed in descriptive text or commentary in connection with these images. I authorise the use of these images without compensation to me. All negatives, prints and digital copies will remain the property of Dr. Lisa Ellis. The above consents will apply throughout the world and be for an indefinite period.
