Eligible Participants: This course is intended for Psychologists, Social Workers, Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, School-Based Clinicians, Graduate Students, Behavioral Health Interns and others supporting the mental health and well-being adolescents and young adults.

Description: Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is an often misunderstood and emotionally charged issue for clinicians, caregivers, and school-based professionals alike. This 2-hour training will provide mental health professionals with up-to-date, trauma-informed strategies to recognize, assess, and intervene with pre-teens and adolescents who engage in self-injury. Through case examples, developmental perspectives, and a compassionate lens, we will explore the functions of NSSI, common misconceptions, co-occurring concerns, and culturally sensitive approaches to treatment. Whether you work in a clinic, school, or private practice, this session will deepen your confidence and competence in supporting youth on a path toward healing and emotional regulation.

Course Format: This 2-hour course will be held on-line via Zoom and will include a PowerPoint Presentation and training activities to apply practical strategies to clinical practice.

Course Objectives: This course is intended to enable participants to:

1. Define non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) and differentiate it from suicidal behaviors in clinical and school-based settings.
2. Identify common functions and risk factors of NSSI in pre-teens and adolescents, including developmental, relational, and cultural influences.
3. Recognize signs of co-occurring mental health conditions that may underlie or exacerbate NSSI behaviors.
4. Apply trauma-informed and evidenced-based strategies for assessing and responding to NSSI across diverse practice settings.
