    Girls Rising EXPO Day:

    • Location: Winston-Salem State University
    • Time: 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.

    The EXPO will offer an Opening Session and Parent/ Guardian sessions from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at WSSU. Parents/guardians are invited to attend and will be provided (2) complimentary admissions per application.

    A separate application must be completed for each girl you want to register.

    Kick off the weekend with a cozy, empowering night just for girls! At our Self-Care PJ Party, attendees will unwind, connect, and recharge through inspiring sessions, hands-on activities, and—of course—pizza! Between sessions, girls will enjoy a chill pizza party in their PJs—because self-care also means laughter, comfort, and community. It’s a night to grow, glow, and get real with yourself and others. *Limited to 35 participants*

    Through a fun LEGO® team challenge, you’ll discover how communication, listening, and problem-solving are actually your superpowers. 🧱💬 You’ll build more than just towers—you’ll build confidence, teamwork skills, and a fresh understanding of what leadership really means.

  • Session #7: Real Talk: Your Mind Matters

    Let’s be real—life can get a lot, and it’s okay to not always have it all figured out. In this honest and uplifting panel hosted by LEAD Ambassadors you’ll hear from high school girls just like you who are opening up about the real stuff—stress, anxiety, pressure, friendships, and everything in between and a local pediatrician who specializes in adolescence. 

    You’ll learn:

    • You’re not alone in how you feel
    • Simple ways to take care of your mental health
    • How to support your friends and yourself when things get tough

    Moderated by one of our amazing High School Ambassadors, this session is all about real stories, real advice, and real encouragement from girls who’ve been where you are—and want you to know that it’s okay to talk about it.

    💬 Come as you are, leave feeling stronger, seen, and supported. Because your thoughts, your feelings, and your mind matter.

  • Session #8: Stress Less, Shine More

    In a world full of pressure, expectations, and constant change, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Join Registered Nurse Leigh Hammond for an empowering session designed just for middle and high school girls. Through honest conversation and practical tools, participants will explore healthy ways to cope with stress, build resilience, and take charge of their emotional well-being. This session encourages young women to see their strength, own their journey, and step confidently into their future.

  • Session #1: Allegacy Panel: Healthy Fancial Habits

    When it comes to improving your financial well-being, it takes more than good intentions to be successful. It’s about building healthy habits that stick. Whether you want to learn to live within your means, keep debt at a manageable level, or embrace delayed gratification – committing incremental behavior changes is a great place to start. Join our panel discussion to get inspired to take your first step toward greater financial health.

  • Session #2: Kamp Reset w/ Alexia Mitchell

    Kamp Reset is a wellness experience created to give parents and guardians the time and space to pause, reflect, and recharge—with the future in mind. In a world where you're constantly giving—to your family, your work, your community—it’s easy to lose sight of yourself. But when you invest in your own well-being, you invest in the future.

    This session is designed to help you slow down and reconnect with the person you are beyond the roles you fill every day. Through restorative activities, mindfulness practices, and meaningful connection with others who understand the demands of caregiving, you’ll be supported in resetting your mind, nurturing your body, and restoring your sense of self.

    This isn’t just a relaxation session—it’s a reset.
    A step forward.
    Because when you care for yourself, you gain clarity, energy, and strength to lead your family—and your future—with intention.

     





  • Required Permissions

    We ask permission from every LEAD Girl participant's parent/guardian to include them in photos and/or videos taken during the program, and to ask them about their experience in the program on participant surveys. Your responses below are required for permission.
  • Informed Consent: Program Expectations and Parental Permission

    The Program has established standards of conduct for all Participants. It is the responsibility of the Parent/Legal Guardian and the Participant to review the Program rules and standards of
    conduct. Dismissed Participants may not be eligible for a refund of any fees or expenses.

    The Program agrees to: 

    • Provide an agenda outlining the activities of the Program including the times, days, and how to access content.
    • Collect registration information such as participant name, address, phone number, parents/guardian(s) name(s), phone number(s) and email(s).
    • Provide a supply list and recommendations for setting up the home workspace to help participants fully engage in the program.
    • Take attendance and only allow registered participants to participate.
    • Only communicate with participants through official Program platforms.
    • Ensure that two or more Program staff are present for the duration of the program.
    • Keep conversations and interactions focused on the Program goals and objectives.
    • Create an environment where everyone is welcomed and given the opportunity to succeed.
    • Ensure that all participants are treated with dignity, fairness, and respect. Harassment will not be tolerated. Hazing of any kind is prohibited. Cyberbullying is prohibited.
    • Address problems that are brought to their attention.
    • Will not share personal information, email, or social media accounts with minor participants.

    The Participant agrees to:

    • Participate in the digital environment to the same standard as a physical environment, including participating when called on, listening attentively, and minimizing distractions to others.
    • Not share links or passwords for Program meetings or content.
    • Challenge themselves to engage, be present, and learn.
    • Complete assigned projects on time.
    • Request help if needed.
    • Mute when not talking.
    • Dress appropriately when on video.
    • Not take inappropriate screenshots or images.
    • Assume good intentions and have fun!

    The Parent/Legal Guardian(s) agrees to:

    • Assist the participant in setting up the home environment to meet the goals of the Program.
    • Ensure the participant logs in on time and is prepared for the Program.
    • Limit distractions and keep the participant safe throughout the duration of the Program.
    • Allow time for the participant to complete required assignments.
    • Communicate with staff prior to the Program start time if the participant must be absent.
    • Work with Program staff to resolve issues that may arise.
    • Report illegal or inappropriate online behavior by staff or program participants:

    The following may result in being dismissed from the program:

    • Bullying, harassing or using derogatory language towards another person or group ofpeople.
    • Being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
    • Repeated absences or failure to meet agreed upon program work requirements.
    • Violation of a University code, policy, or regulation.

    What are the consequences if the participant does not meet Program expectations?

    • Staff will give a verbal or written warning regarding behaviors and actions that are not allowed and in most cases give the participant an opportunity to correct the behavior.
    • Depending on the behavior, they may also contact the parent or legal guardian.
    • In some cases, staff may require a corrective action plan in order to stay in the program.
    • Some behaviors may result in immediate suspension or termination.
  • Informed Consent:Permission for Photography of Participant to LEAD Girls of NC

    For valuable consideration received, I hereby grant LEAD Girls of NC (LEAD), its agents and/or assigns the absolute and irrevocable right and unrestricted permission concerning any photographs or other images (hereafter called "media") taken or to be taken of my minor child/participant in LEAD activities in which the participant may be included with others, to use, reuse, publish, and republish the photographs in whole or in part, individually or in connection with other material, in any and all media now or hereafter known, including the internet, and for any purpose whatsoever, specifically including illustration, promotion, art, editorial, advertising, and trade, without restriction as to alteration; and to use the minor child’s name in connection with any use if LEAD so chooses.

    I release and discharge LEAD, its agents and assigns, from any and all claims and demands that may arise out of or in connection with the use of the photographs, including without limitation any and all claims for libel or violation of any right of publicity or privacy.

    This authorization and release shall also inure to the benefit of the Board of Directors, legal representatives, and licensees of LEAD. I am a legally competent adult and have the right to contract on behalf of the minor child/participant. I have read this document and fully understand its contents. This release shall be binding upon me and my heirs, legal representatives, and assigns.

  • Informed Consent: Liability of Waiver of Participant to LEAD Girls of NC

    In consideration of inclusion as a participant in the 2025 Girls Rising Expo, participant
    agrees to indemnify and hold harmless LEAD Girls of NC, Inc. Board of Trustees, members, agents, employees and assigns from and against any liability, loss, costs, demand, claims, fines, debts, or judgments that participant or participants members, performers, employees, agents, independent contractors, or volunteers may sustain or incur as a result of or arising from participant’s involvement in the conference. Such indemnification will include all reasonable attorney and legal fees. In addition, LEAD Girls of NC, Inc. has made no representations, promises or guarantees regarding condition, safety or suitability of any location or equipment provided for any purpose or use of any kind. Participant will participate at own risk. By signing this waiver of liability, I the undersigned, agree that I have read and understand all of the foregoing.

  • Informed Consent: LEAD Girls of NC Assessment and Evaluation

    To evaluate the effectiveness of our programs, LEAD Girls of NC (LEAD) is conducting research on girls who participate in LEAD programs.

    LEAD requests parental/guardian consent for the girls to participate in data collection
    at various times throughout the program. Surveys completed by participants are important because they help provide information about the needs of girls when they begin LEAD, and how the girls are doing after they finish LEAD. In addition to surveys, girls may also be selected for additional research activities, such as participating in a telephone or in-person interview. Parents/Guardians will be notified if their daughter is selected.

    There are no foreseeable risks or inconveniences associated with participation in LEAD surveys or interviews. Girls are free to decline to answer any question they do not wish to answer without providing an explanation. There are no direct benefits from participating aside from improving LEAD and helping girls avoid risky behaviors.

    Survey and interview participation is confidential. Responses will not be documented using girls’ names or other identifying information. Girls’ contact information and notes will remain in the possession of the researcher and stored using a password-protected computer.
