Scarecrow Decorating Contest  Sponsored by Novant Health and the Town of Mint Hill 

The Annual Town of Mint Hill Scarecrow Decorating Contest will be held October 2025.  

How does the contest work?

• Create a scarecrow
• Put it on display outside your business, church, home, or club
• Don’t have a place to display your scarecrow? We got you covered. A limited number of spots will be available at Town Hall.

We'll make sure there is a list of all locations where scarecrows are on display for voting.  

• Patrons will be encouraged to visit your location and vote
• The BEST SCARECROWS will win a cash prize. *

Decorate Mint Hill with those amazing scarecrows!

*The winners of the scarecrow contest are not eligible to win again for the next two years.  This rule ensures that new participants have a chance to showcase their creativity and win.  Winners are encouraged to participate but will not be eligible for prizes.  The highest-ranking eligible participants will be awarded.

Timeline:

October 8            Deadline to submit photo

October 15 – 17    Online voting

October 18           Winners will be announced at Mint Hill Madness

PRIZES will be given for each Business (including churches, nonprofits) and individual with the most votes.

 Scarecrow Contest Rules and Regulations

This contest is open to any individual, business, organization, or non-profit within the Mint Hill Town limits that would like to contribute to the spirit of the season. 

You must submit a completed application no later than September 30 to be included in the list.  A $10 donation entry fee is required.

• Scarecrows will be on display during the period of October 1 – 31.  You must provide your own materials.  A limited number of scarecrows will be placed around the fountain at Mint Hill Town Hall. 
• Scarecrows at Town Hall must use a 2 ½ “ PVC pipe and the Scarecrow Template. Size is limited to 3’ deep, 5’ wide, and 10’ tall (at Town Hall only).
• You may decorate your scarecrow however you like, but it must be appropriate for public display.  Staff reserve the right to eliminate a scarecrow if deemed inappropriate.  Scarecrows must be in good taste and appropriate for viewing by the public and families.  No frightening, scary, or bloody entries will be accepted.  Be creative and tasteful!
• Participants are encouraged to develop a design that is appropriate for public display, utilizing materials that will withstand the elements, including wind, rain, or hurricanes.
• The Town of Mint Hill is not responsible for the maintenance or care of individual entries.  Participants are responsible for any upkeep should any materials become detached.  The Town will not be liable for any damage, theft, or vandalism to scarecrows.
• All scarecrows must have a laminated name tag to identify themselves.  #mhscarecrows.       
• Employees of the Town of Mint Hill and household members of each such employee can participate, but are not eligible for prize money.
