    Speaker:  Art DiMarco, DMD 
    Dr. Art DiMarco is Director of the RIDE Program in Spokane and Affiliate Faculty at UWSOD. In addition, he is professor of dental hygiene at Eastern Washington University and a long-term clinician, author, and educator. During his more than thirty-five years of clinical practice, he has taught in a number of dental, dental hygiene, and dental assisting programs. His research and publications have focused primarily on the efficacy and administration of local anesthesia in both educational and non-educational settings. Paralleling these activities, he continues to teach many didactic and hands-on university and continuing education courses in local anesthesia for dentists, dental hygienists, and dental and dental hygiene students. In addition to the Curriculum Committee on which he serves, he is also a member of the UWSOD Student Progress Committee as Spokane RIDE representative.

    Course Summary:
    Join Dr. Art DiMarco for a 2-credit continuing education course exploring current advancements in local anesthesia techniques. Designed for dental professionals seeking to enhance their clinical skills, this session will focus on two key areas: the impact of buffering on anesthetic effectiveness and patient comfort, and the step-by-step technique for administering the Short Needle Inferior Alveolar and Lingual (SNIAL) injection. Dr. DiMarco brings over 35 years of experience as a clinician, educator, and researcher, with a deep focus on the efficacy and administration of local anesthesia.Participants can expect practical insights, evidence-based updates, and instruction grounded in decades of teaching and clinical expertise.

    Objectives: 
    Explain how buffering impacts local anesthesia, including onset time and patient comfort.
    Outline the steps to perform the SNIAL injection using correct landmarks and needle placement.
